The Motocross des Nations 2020 was scheduled for September 26th and 27th in Ernée (53).
Given the existing uncertainties as to the number of spectators that it will be possible to welcome at the end of September and the economic risks that this entails, the Moto-Club d’Ernée preferred to give up the organisation of this prestigious competition in 2020.
The FIM, the FFM, Infront Moto Racing and the Moto-Club d’Ernée decided by mutual agreement to postpone this competition until 2023.
Jacques Bolle, President of the French Motorcycling Federation: “I am really sorry because this major competition would have allowed France to experience this year a great event where the French riders shone many times. However, I fully understand the position of the Moto-Club d’Ernée, the risks were too high. Nevertheless, I am delighted to know that this great event will be back in France in 2023. I would like to thank David Luongo and the Infront Moto Racing company for their listening and their constructive spirit on this issue.ʺ
David Luongo, President of Infront Moto Racing: “Despite the great sadness, we understand the decision of the club and the FFM regarding the postponement of the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations in France. It is clear that despite the efforts of all parties over the last few months, the situation in France regarding the constraints of organising large popular events and the health instructions of the government authorities seemed untenable for the Moto-Club d’Ernée. In spite of this, the Motocross of Nations 2020 should still take place in another country, which will be announced as soon as possible on September 26/27. Moreover, we can already confirm our will to come back to France in 2023 to organize this event, which remains the most popular off-road event in the world on the Ernée circuit. I would like to thank the Moto-Club d’Ernée as well as the FFM, the teams of volunteers and their respective presidents for their determination and collaboration in this event.ʺ
Philippe Lecomte, President of the Moto-Club d’Ernée: “Since the official announcement of the organization of the Motocross des Nations 2020 on our circuit, the entire Moto-Club team has been working hard to put together an event that is equal to the last two editions we hosted in 2005 and 2015. In view of the health constraints linked to the COVID-19 pandemic and given the many uncertainties concerning the organisation conditions in September, we are forced to request the postponement of the Motocross des Nations 2020. This decision is the choice of reason in the face of a very important health and financial risk. Beyond the sport, it is a whole territory that is deprived of economic spin-offs. I have a thought for our partners, sponsors and service providers who have committed themselves to this project. I would like to thank Jacques Bolle and the French Motorcycling Federation as well as David Luongo and the Société In Front for their support and commitment alongside the club throughout this complicated period for the whole team. The objective of the club is to bounce back quickly and I already give you an appointment for the Motocross des Nations 2023.ʺ
